Description

Eucalyptus kochii, commonly known as oil mallee, is a species of mallee, sometimes a tree, and is endemic to Western Australia. It has rough, flaky or fibrous bark on the trunk, smooth grey bark above, linear to narrow lance-shaped adult leaves, flower buds in groups of nine to fifteen, white flowers and urn-shaped fruit.

Just as Eucalyptus Globulus is the principal source of Eucalyptus oil worldwide, so is its cousin Eucalyptus Kochii the least known throughout the globe. I have never found such rich and strong Eucalyptus oil such as Eucalyptus Kochii. I believe it’s the best oil to use for making vapor rubs, among other products when you just need that extra strength in smell and effectiveness.

Eucalyptus Kochii is readily particularly steam distilled from the leaves and can be used for a variety of purposes, such as cleaning products and as an industrial solvent, as an antiseptic, for deodorizing, and in very small quantities in food supplements, especially sweets, cough drops, toothpaste and decongestants. It has insect-repellent properties, and serves as an active ingredient in some commercial mosquito-repellents. Aroma therapists have adopted Eucalyptus oils for a wide range of purposes, and once they discover this unique gem, they always seem to be on the look-out for more.
